The S&P 500 is priced for perfection and could plunge 25% if problems crop up, Mike Wilson says. Morgan Stanley's stock chief says the outlook for company earnings and the economy is pretty grim. The benchmark S&P 500 and tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite have rallied 17% and 33% respectively this year. He suggested a shock to the system of that kind could send the S&P 500 plummeting from nearly 4,500 points today to the low 3,000s — a drop of more than 25%. AdvertisementAdvertisementIn short, Wilson sees very limited upside and material downside to investing in the S&P 500 today.

This is no ordinary “Shut up and play.” What they really seem to be saying is: Just shut up. In that way, the experience of the U.S. women’s team reflects the confounding experience of so many women trying to make a case for their callings and careers around the world. That was the setting chosen by FIFA, world soccer’s governing body, for the first Women’s World Cup. Instead, it got the consolation prize of women’s soccer, a sport nothing like the glory of soccer played by men. The male organizers of the tournament seriously considered having the women play with a smaller ball — a size used by children.

Some also said the tragic end, when it came, was precipitated by the actions of the Greek coastguard. after a Greek coastguard vessel attached a rope to the bow of the trawler and began to pull it while picking up speed. The shipping ministry, which oversees the coastguard, told Reuters it couldn't comment on issues that were the subject of a confidential and ongoing investigation by prosecutors. Nikos Spanos, a retired admiral in the Greek coastguard, told Reuters it was unlikely that a coastguard vessel would have attempted such a dangerous manoeuvre as towing the stricken trawler. Three survivors told authorities they paid anywhere from 50 to 200 euros ($55-220) extra for places on the outer deck, considered safer.

Liang took the grueling two-day exam, known as the “gaokao,” in early June alongside nearly 13 million students nationwide. Students’ exam results are their only criteria for college admission – and most candidates only get one shot, with the test happening once a year. “It may be a little difficult if I want to go to a good university this year,” he said in the video. He’d even accepted that Sichuan University might be out of reach, deciding to attend any “key university” that would accept him. Ahead of this year’s test, many students visited temples to light incense and pray for good results.

Lower your monthly paymentsWith a new mortgage refinance rate, you could potentially lower your monthly payments, too. AdvertisementKeep in mind, if you stretch your mortgage out across a longer term, you'll be paying your mortgage for longer. Pay off your home soonerMaybe your original mortgage term was 30 year mortgage, and you have 20 years left on your mortgage. Cons of refinancing your mortgagePay closing costsJust as with your original mortgage, you'll have to pay closing costs when you refinance. A cash-out refinance replaces your initial mortgage, but a home equity loan adds a second mortgage payment to your monthly expenses.

Apple told Stern any discomfort she encountered after wearing Vision Pro goggles may have been because it only had limited-sized "light seals" at the demonstration space. Apple's Vision Pro is constructed of aluminum alloy and a snazzy single piece of exterior glass, which is why it looks so much nicer than the competition. Apple's new Vision Pro headset was announced on Monday at the company's WWDC conference.

It might not sound particularly appealing on paper, but 23-year-old airplane seat designer Alejandro Núñez Vicente believes double-level seating is the future of economy flying. You may have seen a photo of Núñez Vicente’s Chaise Longue Airplane Seat prototype floating around the internet. Núñez Vicente envisages an airplane cabin in which the Chaise Longue is in the center, flanked by two rows of regular airplane seating. INVESTMENT HELPSThe company based in Hove on Britain's south coast was one of 61 firms - most with 25 or fewer employees - to take part in the world's biggest four-day week trial last year. The experience of some companies in the first trial suggests that moving to a four-day week might help, if it prompts firms to spend more on equipment and training. It piloted a four-day week for its 80 New Zealand staff over 18 months, and has since extended it to 500 workers in Australia, a move it hopes will attract new talent. British recruitment agency Reed.co.uk said it had seen a rise in the number of job advertisements offering a four-day week since the start of the year. Allcap, a supplier of industrial components with 36 employees in western England, tried a four-day week after its staff had worked flat out during the pandemic to supply protective equipment and ventilator parts.
Long stuck in the shadow of Erdogan and his Islamist-rooted AK Party (AKP), opposition leader Kilicdaroglu has flourished on the campaign trail with polls showing he has a slight lead. Kilicdaroglu said a fundamental problem of Turkey's foreign policy during the tenure of Erdogan's AKP was the exclusion of the foreign ministry in the policy making process. 'PEACE-ORIENTED FOREIGN POLICY'"We would pursue a peace-oriented foreign policy that prioritises Turkey's national interest. Before entering politics, Kilicdaroglu worked in the finance ministry and then chaired Turkey's Social Insurance Institution for most of the 1990s. A year after losing a mayoral run in Istanbul, he was elected unopposed as party leader in 2010.

When it comes down to it, I realize that I need to take care of my physical health first.
When a Walkable City Becomes a Death Trap

Last year saw 257 traffic fatalities in the city; just one fewer than there had been nine years ago, when Vision Zero began. The pandemic managed both to confirm and undermine New York’s reputation as the most walkable city in the country. Speeding and reckless driving were the leading causes of traffic deaths, and in 2021 they reached their highest point in the Vision Zero era. Nationally, there were more pedestrian deaths in 2021 than there had been in 40 years. Under Vision Zero, the Department of Transportation was tasked with identifying “priority corridors” — those stretches where pedestrian deaths and serious injuries are most concentrated.

For Laroi, there is no clearly defined day or night. Sometimes he drives all night and sleeps all day; sometimes he sleeps all day and drives all night. One day a week, Sophie works late so she can meet with far-flung colleagues in real time. Now she has enough energy left at the end of the day to go grocery shopping and cook dinner. The time markers reflect the time of day when participants told an interviewer they would normally be doing the activity shown.
The Keys are also the first flock of canaries in the coal mine of climate change. The hurricane made undeniable what previous floods had only suggested: that climate change will someday make life in the archipelago impossible to sustain. The decision to leave, on the other hand, which once signified surrender, now looks more like acceptance of the inevitable. It's this messiness that is reflected in the word "displacement": the migratory shifts caused by climate change are as chaotic as the weather events that cause them. This is an excerpt adapted from THE GREAT DISPLACEMENT: Climate Change and the Next American Migration by Jake Bittle.

My most successful resolution to date was in 2020, when I vowed to learn how to drive a car. Courtesy of MikeI used to only set unquantifiable New Year's resolutions for myself, like "lose weight." But now I think of resolutions as goals I can accomplish that would be nice for me, not for anyone else. I really just try to frame my resolutions as, "What would make me feel really good this year?" I decided not to spend money on clothing, books, media, and video games, which was really hard because Animal Crossing came out that year.
Some are pointing the finger at CEO David Solomon and his spending on the consumer banking business. "Out of control" spendingGoldman insiders are also still fuming over spending on Goldman's consumer business, and there are fears this resentment could escalate with next month's earnings. The consumer bank includes Marcus, a digital banking platform that offers high-yield savings accounts, and the Apple credit card. It was key to Solomon's plan to diversify the company away from its core investment banking business. Goldman pulled back on its consumer banking ambitions earlier this year amid questions about how much cash was being burned on the strategy, led by Stephanie Cohen.
